When you need to have an exclusive experience of bird watching in Rwanda look no further than hiring a self drive car rental from Access car rentals. Albertine Rift conserves more threatened and endemic species than any other region with over 29 Endemics species; including the Albertine owlet, collared apalis, red-collared mountain-babbler and Grauer’s and Neumann’s warblers and many more.
Nyungwe also should be on any birders to do list. Nyungwe National Park is a tropical mountain rainforest and lies on the south-western slopes of the highland region that forms the great divide between the Congo and Nile drainage systems.
At Nyungwe, a total of 322 bird species have been recorded, more than at any site in Uganda and currently second only to the Itombwe Mountains in the DRC and it is the only safe site to observe the attractive Red-collared Babbler Kupeornis rufocinctus.
The good roads provide far easier access to high altitude habitats than to the more popular sites in Uganda. Add to this, 13 species of primates; including Chimpanzee, Angola Colobus, L’Hoests Monkey, numerous endemic plant species and utterly spectacular scenery, you have one of the most rewarding eco-tourism sites in Africa.
As an aside, the papyrus swamps in Akagera National Park are one of few places in Africa where shoebill storks are found.
Touring with Rwanda cars for rental on safari or self drive, Rwanda will reward you with a lot of bird species by covering a small area or spending a short time out on the birding trail. There is also easy access and views to the rare and hard-to-spot bird species.
